Celebrate February: The month with your heart in mind
Traditionally, we associate flowers, chocolates, Cupid and other Valentine’s Day sentiments of devotion with February. But there’s another reason to celebrate this “month of love.” It’s American Heart Month. With heart disease being the leading cause of death in the U.S. – at 165 deaths per 100,000 individuals in 2017, roughly one in every four deaths – February is an important month for raising awareness about how to prevent this leading killer of Americans.
Whether you live in the U.S. or not, these dramatic statistics demonstrate the importance of a lifestyle that keeps your heart health in mind, no matter where in the world you live – and it’s easier than you may think.
It takes commitment, focus and the elimination of bad habits to maintain a healthy heart, but once you incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine, it can make a difference. There’s no time like the present. Begin with small steps:
- Exercise at least 150 minutes per week
- Season food with spices rather than salt
- Eat a healthy diet
- Don’t smoke
- Lose weight
- Consume foods that are high in antioxidants
Enjoying one to two packets a day of Jeunesse Reserve is another simple way you can show your heart some love. This delicious superfruit blend of açai berry, pomegranate, dark cherry, Concord grape and blueberry also includes aloe vera and the extracts of green tea and grape seed, as well as heart-friendly resveratrol to help provide the antioxidant protection your body needs, without artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.
While some of us might think, “I’m too young to have heart disease,” the CDC reports that most U.S. adults have a “heart age” that’s more advanced than their real age, thanks to risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol and being overweight. Do you know your heart age? You can learn more here.
If you happen to be on the higher rungs of the age ladder, Reserve also works to help fight the effects of oxidative damage caused by free radicals. And, the convenient on-the-go packets make it easy to keep a single serving of “vitality” in your pocket or purse – yours whenever or wherever you need it.
As a global company, we want to remind our Jeunesse Family around the world just how important it is to take your health seriously, so you can enjoy your life to the fullest. Discover ways to share heart disease awareness with your loved ones and friends, and learn how to get involved with American Heart Month here.
